Solution 3: Uninstall and Re-install the Messenger App

If following above both the solutions fail, then you should uninstall and re-install the latest version of Facebook messenger app on your Android device.

But uninstalling the app will delete all the data such as photos, videos, animation, GIF images, etc shared on Messenger on your Android phone. So, before uninstalling the app make sure you take the backup of the files.

If you have not kept the backup then you can use Android Data Recovery software to restore deleted or lost files of Messenger apps such as videos, photos, GIF images, audio, etc from your Android.

Un-installing Messenger App:

  • Open Settings on your Android. Tap on Installed apps. [I am using Redmi 4A]
  • Now look for Messenger app in the All Application tab.
  • Tap on Messenger app and then tap on Uninstall.

Alternatively, you can open Play Store, type messenger in the search address bar. You will find the list of messenger app. Tap on Facebook messenger app and click on Uninstall button.

Note: After uninstalling the app, it is suggested that you must restart your Android device before you proceed further to reinstall it back again.

Re-installing Messenger App:

  • Open Play Store, type messenger in the search address bar.
  • You will find the list of messenger app.
  • Tap on Facebook messenger app and click on Install button.
